Duality by Joan Pala
The Spanish influencer Joan Pala went on a trip to London to discover this dual city! London has a unique style expressed by a mix between classic and contemporary: the city that never ceases to amaze with a prestigious heritage and an avant-gardist approach.
Issey Miyake has always been a dual brand: created from the encounter between Occident and Orient, between innovation and tradition. In 1992, when he created L’Eau d’Issey, the designer wanted to transform water into a fragrance… One must love paradoxes, have the soul of an artist and the futuristic vision of a designer, to want to unite these two universes.
His experience in London & first impressions on the city
London has always been a very inspiring destination to me and as soon as the Issey Miyake Parfums team told me about the project, it instantly caught my attention. A week later, I was headed to this large, overcrowded, congested yet enriching city in the heart of the United Kingdom to rediscover the iconic fragrances L’Eau d’Issey and L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme. This time, not different from any, the city welcomed us with a fresh and wet day ahead.
The duality theme
If you check the definition of duality you’ll find two: the quality or condition of being dual and an instance of opposition or contrast between two concepts or two aspects of something; a dualism. Issey Miyake and London are two different worlds with some unique approaches yet similar features: strength, candid, elegance, singularity and brilliant. L’Eau d’Issey is a paradox and was a revolution at the moment of its creation: a fragrance that has been created to reflect the scent of water on a woman’s skin.
Every time I am in London, I stay in Shoreditch. A creative and quirky neighborhood – full of stylish people, freelance designers and markets of every kind – Shoreditch is an alternative London, with a similar attitude but in this case, focused on the arts, design and fashion.
His souvenirs of London with L’Eau d’Issey & L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme
I had lunch at Aqua Shard, a restaurant with breathtaking views to the city. It is located inside a chic minimalist building, with slight brushes of vintage — like making an ode to the classics. Laced with elegant, sharp and powerful fragrances, just like L’Eau d’Issey.
L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme has an energizing facet that I love: the yuzu, a citrus fruit from Japan, brings acidity and freshness to the fragrance. It has permitted me to face the rainy city with strength.
His anecdotes on the trip
Due to my job, I get to travel a lot and the best part of it is the people you meet on the way. In London, I have some close friends I love to visit and nourish my mind with their tips and experiences. Surprisingly, my boy Mike (@qmike) was in town and as usual, he brought me to his latest inspirational spots. We had a very productive and leisured day together.
During the trip, I had a chance to rediscover L’Eau d’Issey and L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme. When I was shooting some images, I realized that if you look at the masculine fragrance from the side, the shape fits with the bottle of L’Eau d’Issey.
